At age 13 Mr. Ambartsumian immigrated to United States from Armenia
without a penny to his name.
Between 1992-1994 during the former Soviet Union collapse, his family moved to Siberia from Yerevan for better opportunities, but instead were physically persecuted on regular basis by Russians and Kazakhstanis in a remote village that didn't have a police department.
Despite a dark childhood, he spent another 9 years as an immigrant in the States before naturalization, working numerous odd jobs and spending tens of thousands on immigration attorneys to establish residency and supporting his single mother.
Nevertheless, Mr. Ambartsumian quickly moved up the ranks in graduating at the top of his class from UTSA with a BBA in Finance from a top tier school. At age 26, his luck changed when he made a small fortune from Bank of America option calls at the height of the financial crisis. He then poured all the profits into San Antonio and Austin homes, which ultimately became the hottest real estate markets throughout recession due to the oil boom in Central Texas.
While a career in residential and commercial underwriting seemed promising, his passion for trading derivatives forced him to gravitate towards fund management. Edgar then sold all of his real estate in 2015 and bought Bitcoin and Ethereum, catapulting him into semi retirement at age 38.
As of 2024 Avalanche Partners is one of the fastest growing closed end hedge funds in United States despite its modest size, delivering triple digit returns on consistent basis from aggressive derivatives trading strategies.
